The School emphasizes the cultivation of students' professional competence and practical skills. The Applied Physics major recruits undergraduates annually, offering a range of professional courses to cultivate a systematic theoretical foundation and solid application capabilities, laying the groundwork for development in scientific research, teaching, technical development, and management within physics and related fields. The School recruits master's students annually to conduct scientific research in multiple directions including quantum technology, advanced materials, and optics.
Relying on high-level research projects and provincial/ministerial-level research platforms, the School utilizes a multi-drive approach of "Project + Group Meeting + Experiment" to enhance students' hands-on practice and scientific research innovation capabilities. Through academic reports, salons, and seminars, the School broadens graduate students' academic horizons. An academic training system encompassing coursework, literature review, research practice, topic selection and proposal, mid-term assessment, and defense has been constructed. In the past five years, students have published 126 papers as first authors in journals such as Science Advances and Physical Review A, and 10 students have received the Tianjin Excellent Master's Thesis Award.
